About usWe are working with a well-established engineering organisation seeking an experienced Senior Protection & Secondary Design Engineer specialising in Medium Voltage (MV) systems.In this role, you will take ownership of protection system design and secondary engineering, supporting projects end-to-end — from initial concept through to commissioning.This is a highly technical position suited to someone with strong expertise in power system protection, relay configuration, and schematic design.TasksKey Responsibilities• Design complete protection schemes for MV systems, including feeders, transformers, generators, and switchgear• Develop detailed secondary schematics in line with project specifications and industry standards• Select appropriate protection relays based on system studies and project requirements• Configure, parameterise, and commission protection relays• Carry out relay testing including functional testing, secondary injection, and commissioning tests• Specify and select Current Transformers (CTs) and Voltage Transformers (VTs) for protection and metering• Ensure compliance with international standards (IEC, IEEE) and client specifications• Prepare and review technical documentation, protection philosophies, and drawings• Support troubleshooting, fault analysis, and system optimisation• Provide on-site support during commissioning and project delivery when required• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including project managers, primary engineers, and commissioning teamsProfileYour Profile• Extensive experience in power system protection engineering, particularly within Medium Voltage environments• Strong background in secondary design and protection scheme development• In-depth knowledge of protection relays and leading manufacturers• Hands-on experience with relay testing and commissioning• Solid understanding of CT and VT selection and sizing• Proficiency in schematic design tools such as:EPLANAutoCADExperience with Elecdes is a strong advantage• Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills• Willingness to travel to project sites as required• Fluent in English and German (written and spoken)Experience Required• 7–10+ years of experience in protection engineering and secondary system design (MV level)We offerWhat’s on Offer• Opportunity to work on complex and high-impact energy projects• End-to-end involvement across design, testing, and commissioning• Flexible working environment with project-based travel• Long-term stability within a growing engineering organisation
